Mckayla has her own interpretation of sounds from the animals. For chickens, it’s “cluck-cluck-ga”. For doggies, she says “Waaaaahhhhhh”. And for cows, she says “Mmmmmmm”.

Mckayla’s last canine (cuspic) tooth (#16 – the bottom left one) is finally out. The sharp white edge has finally “erupted” through the gum. Hopefully, the volume of daily saliva leakage will drop soon. And that her fingers will also come out the mouth soon.
According to the chart below, Mckayla is slightly ahead of her schedule right now. She’s got the last four second molars left. We’re not looking forward to those molars though. She had a rough time with the first set when she was turning one, waking up every 1-2 hours in the middle of the night crying.

Poopy in the Tub
February 25, 2009 · 1 Comment
Mckayla has been squatting when she poops, at least when she’s awake. On Sunday, we were eating at the restaurant and all of the sudden, she stood up from the high chair and refused to sit back down. When we took her out of the high chair, that was when we realized she had pooped in her diaper. Last night, Ted was giving her a bath while I was getting her pajamas out. While in the tub, Mckayla got in the squatting position again. Seeing her in that position, Ted turned and asked me, “Has Mckayla ever pooped while taking her bath?”. Before I was able to respond, I heard Ted yelling for help from the bathroom. I ran in there to check on them. And surprise surprise, Mckayla had just pooped in the tub. I told Nanny the little incident last night, she suggested that we should start thinking about potty training her. She’s been pretty consistently getting in her squatting position when she’s pooping and even nods her head if we asked her if she has just pooped. But I’m not sure we’re ready for the pooping cleaning in the training potty yet.

Mckayla is Me!

Since most of our families are far away and Mckayla doesn’t get to see them on regular basis, I’ve made a little album for her to “recognize” her family. She’s starting to point at the right people as I name them. She’s better at pointing to people in person still. She knows her Mommy, Daddy, PoPo (Nanny). Over the weekend, she “met” her friend Uno and learned his name. She usually gives me a confused look when ask her to point at Mckayla (in the picture). Last night, I asked her, “Where’s Mckayla?”, rather than looking for herself in the picture, she pointed at herself and gave me a big smile! She found Mckayla!

Bubbles

I took Mckayla to Gymboree last night to play. She ran around and played on the mats, climbed on the slides, rolled in the barrel, and had a great time. It was getting late and I was getting tired, so I told her it’s time to go home. We went to the entrance area to put her socks back on. I let her back on the ground while I was looking for her shoes. As soon as she got back on the ground, she immediately ran back to the mats and wanted to play more. So, we ended up staying for a bit longer. Because she had her socks on now, she didn’t have as much tarction as bare foot. So, a little accident happened. She went down the slide and landed on the ground sideways on her cheek. It must have hurt pretty bad because she started to wail. Tears immeditely dripped down her cheecks and she ran to me looking for a hug and kiss her owie. The Gymboree lady there saw her crying and took out the bubble bottle. As soon as she started blowing the bubbles, the crying stopped. And all the kids in the room gathered around us to catch and pop the bubbles flying everywhere. Amazing how they’re so easily distracted and how much all kids love bubbles.

A Trip to the Snow
February 23, 2009 · 1 Comment
We took off on Friday afternoon right after Ted got home from work. We wanted to leave early to avoid the Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. We were planning to get there in the late afternoon but didn’t make it to Rancho Cordova until dinner time. The trip up took us almost four hours because we stopped for late lunch in Fremont and got stuck in traffic for a while in Pleasanton/Dublin area. Then, we pulled over for caffeine break again in Tracy because the traffic wasn’t moving. We finally arrived at Daniela/Phil’s house. Since Daniela was on her way home from work and picking Uno up, and Phil just left for the aiport to pick up Debbie, Cary, and Baby Aiden, we let ourselves in their house. As soon as we got in the house, Mckayla immediately ran into the family room towards where the toys were when we last visited. She was surprised by the empty corner since all the toys had been put away. She turned to me and signed “all gone”. Shortly after we got settled in, Daniela arrived home with Uno. The two kids warmed up quickly and went to play with their toys. After Debbie and Cary arrived with Baby Aiden, we finally got everyone settled in and got to enjoy a late dinner at home. After dinner, it was time to bathe the kids and put them down to sleep. Finally after the kids were in bed and the boys were playing their video games, Daniela and I were finally able to chat and catch up (Debbie fell asleep with Aiden). Next morning, we had planned to eat brunch, then head up to the snow as soon as we get ready. But by the time we got in the car, it was already twelve noon. Shortly after we left, I realized we forgot Mckayla’s shoes and my jacket, so we turned back to the house. Then, we got everyone settled back in the car again and hit the road, but the drivers wanted ice coffee. So we picked up the food at the drive-through from Mcdonald’s. Half an hour later, Aiden was hungry and Debbie realized his bottles were in the trunk. So, we pulled over at the gas station again. The short one hour drive took us two hours to accomplish. We all got dressed and finally got the kids on the snow. Uno and Mckayla had a great time playing and eating snow. Little over an hour later, it was time to pack up and head back. Both Uno and Mckayla didn’t want to keep their mittens on and their fingers were frozen and turning red. The trip back was much faster since we didnt’ make any stops. We ate an early dinner in Roseville. After dinner, we drove back to Danila/Phil’s house and it was early bedtime for all the kids. Both Mckayla and Uno didn’t complain much about the early bedtime since they were both exhausted. After the kids went to bed, we watched Ted, Cary, and Phil’s on Playstation’s Sing Star. They were being very silly and danced along as they sang. After four hours of singing, they were finally exhausted and it was time for us to go to sleep. Next morning, we got up pretty early since the kids were up early. Mckayla and Uno started to fight for toys. They wanted to play with the same toy even though there’s a room full of other toys. They even fought for the teether that Aiden had in his hand. But for the most part, Mckayla and Uno played along pretty good. They were in the room playing while we chattted in the family room. Then, all of the sudden, we heard Mckayla crying. She ran toward us holding a doll in her arms. Then, there’s Uno crying and chasing after her. I thought the doll was pretty scary looking but for some reason, they both wanted to hug the doll. Since we didn’t eat breakfast (except for the kids), we decided to head out for early lunch for Dim Sum. After lunch, we headed back to the house again to relax. We let the kids play (and fight) until it was nap time for both Uno and Mckayla. So we packed up the car to head back home. Mckayla was exhausted and slept all the way until we got to Pleasanton. We pulled over in Milpitas for dinner, then drove back home. Ted and I haven’t been to Tahoe since two years ago (the last time I was on the slope was few days after we found out that we were expecting). We missed ski/snowboard and hope we get to get back on the slopes again…maybe in two years, when Mckayla’s old enough to get on the slope, too.

Not being nice…
February 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Mckayla gets along with most kids she’s met so far, but for some reason she didn’t like this little girl last last night. We took Mckayla to Gymboree after work. There’s one girl there, about the same age as Mckayla, with her Dad. We’ve seen them almost every time we’ve been there, even on weekends. But we haven’t really met the Dad yet – he wasn’t interested to talk to anyone there, not even a smile or nod to acknowledge anyone. Mckayla was on the rocking boat with another kid, and the little girl walked over and wanted to join them. Mckayla saw her coming and immediately pushed away the little girl’s hand as she tries to get in the boat with them. We stopped her and told that that wasn’t nice. And took her off the boat so the little girl can play. Then, few minutes later, the little girl came over to Mckayla while she was playing with the table with animal magnets. They stood next to each other and played along. Then, all of the sudden, Mckayla turned to the little girl and grabbed her hair! I picked her up again and told her “NO!” and took her to another area of the play gym. Mckayla is usually pretty good with other kids and willing to share her toys with them. I don’t understand why Mckayla doesn’t like that little girl?

Cheese Connisseur
February 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Ted loves sniffing cheeses when we them at the grocery store and Mckayla has picked up his odd habbit. The other day, I went to the store with Mckayla alone to pick up some fruits and vegetables. Mckayla pointed at the blocks of cheese on display as we walked by. I picked up a block that I wanted to buy and handed her the cheese, she immediately brought it to her nose to sniff. The grocery guy made fun of her, and told me that pretty soon she’ll be reequesting extra sharp cheese with her sandwiches.

Napping OT
February 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Yesterday morning, Mckayla and I went out to pick up grocery. Since it was raining outside and due to my fear of all the germs out there, we stayed home the rest of the day. We had a great time playing peek-a-boo with her favorite blankets, hide and seek behind the furnitures and doors, and even did a lot of reading. She skipped her morning nap and we had an early lunch. After her lunch, I asked her to go “night night”, but she shook her head. So we read a few more books. It was almost one in the afternoon and she started to rub her eyes. And I asked again if she wants her bottle and go to sleep. This time, she nodded her head and signed for milk. I put her in the crib after she drank her milk. Few minutes later, I heard her snoring and she was sound asleep. She must have been tired. The entire afternoon, she woke up twice and whined for a few seconds then went back to sleep. It was almost five o’clock and she was still asleep. I was worried that it would interfere with her sleeping at night if she continued to nap. So, I went in her room to check on her. While I slowly brighten the light in her room, she slowly opened her eyes and gave me a big smile. That was a record for Mckayla, she napped for over three and a half hour.
